The Hawaii Tea Society will utilize a strategy for an industry practice based in Hawaii County that facilitates propagated tea plant material for state wide commercial industry needs. Over the past two years HTS has had an agreement with CTAHR to obtain plant material from CTAHR Mealani Research Station and Volcano Research Station.
HTS propagates this tea plant material for public distribution.
The emphasis of the 2009/2010 program is to assure that Hawaii County tea propagators will be able to supply Hawaii County farmers with nursery ready and field ready tea plants for industry growth. It will also continue to provide additional tea propagating plant material to further establish tea block locations in the county of Hawaii to solidify a self-sustaining propagation program to help support the mission of the Hawaii Tea Society.
